When is a hernia a problem?

A hernia is an opening in the abdominal wall either acquired or from birth.

A hernia without symptoms can be observed in many instances, but this can be tricky.

Hernia symptoms can be subtle or they can come suddenly in the form of a strangulation of its contents which usually are intestines.

A hernia the suddenly gets larger, causes discomfort in the form of pressure or pain, or seems to be stuck and not going in, can be signs of an impending problem.

I advice that, if you have a hernia, or think you might have one, that you see a doctor to diagnose the issue and then look at your options.

It is always best to fix a hernia early than wait until an emergency situation.
